Notodontidae: prominents

The prominents are generally rather sombre in colouration, but they can be beautifully and intricately patterned. In shape, they can be confused with the Noctuids, but the wings are often rolled more around the body or held in a more tent-like fashion. There are some 3200 species worldwide, with 1300 in the Neotropics. So far over 560 species are known from Ecuador. They are covered by volume 18 of Mariposas del Ecuador, but many are only identified as 'sp1',' sp2' etc.

The gallery below shows most of the species that have been recorded at the Lodge. Click on each photo to see an enlarged picture, the species name, and more information.
