Buff-tailed Coronet

The most aggressive hummer, often trying to defend a feeder against other birds, but usually overwhelmed by their sheer numbers. This and the Fawn-breasted Brilliant are often confused. Both are large green hummers, but the Coronet has green, not beige, underparts, a shorter, straighter bill, and obvious buff in the tail in flight. It often raises its wings after it lands to show a rufous patch on the underside. If the bird looks at you, you will get a flash of its brilliant yellow-green face.
