A rare visitor from lower elevations. The adult male is bright blue on the belly with a green breast and forehead, a color combination that is unique at the feeders. However, most of the birds recorded at Tandayapa are immatures, which show a more mottled and subdued pattern, but the blue belly should still be apparent. The females are also distinctive with their pale grey breasts. Both sexes show purple shoulders.
