Gorgeted Sunangel
Chocó Endemic

A very rare visitor from the Upper Valley. Gorgeted Sunangels often appear all black, but when head-on the throat flashes pink. The white crescent across the upper breast is often concealed, as in the photos, but is the most distinctive field mark when visible. Sunangels have a characteristic shape, with a short straight bill, a long tail, and long wings, which are often held down below the body in a droopy manner and flapped forward when the bird lands.
